Travis Hunter the right choice? Former Jaguars Head Coach Coughlin thoughts
Former Jacksonville Jaguars Head Coach Tom Coughlin weighs in on Travis Hunter’s draft
- Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter was picked No. 2 overall in a bold draft day move by the Jacksonville Jaguars.
- Several potential homes for Hunter in the Jacksonville area are highlighted, ranging from oceanfront properties in Ponte Vedra Beach to a riverfront manor on St. Johns Bluff.
- Hunter’s love of fishing and Florida roots may influence his choice of residence, with homes featuring docks and river access being attractive options.
There’s a couple of sweet stories floating around about Travis Hunter, the two-way University of Colorado standout drafted by the Jacksonville Jaguars in late April.
One of them involves the first thing the Heisman Trophy winner purchased upon officially joining the “Big Cats.” After the Lambeau Field draft festivities were over, Hunter reportedly went on Amazon that same night and bought … a pair of Jaguars pajamas.
New Jags GM James Gladstone made a bold move in trading up with the Cleveland Browns to pick the talented Hunter at No. 2 in the first round. In addition to the Heisman and the Walter Camp award, the young man earned a host of other honorifics, as well as a degree in anthropology while maintaining a 4.0 GPA.
Hunter is not a complete stranger to big purchases. He purchased a five-bedroom, 2.5-bath Savannah home for his mother in 2024 and gifted a six-figure Mercedes-Benz AMG G63 BRABUS 800 to his new bride, Leanna Lenee, on their wedding day.
You can be sure he will put a lot of thought into his first Jacksonville-area home purchase. When the time comes, we’ve got some equally bold ideas for him.
Several Ponte Vedra Beach homes lead our roundup, which should come as no surprise. The area is known for its stunning oceanfront homes that often go for eight figures. That includes the top two properties on this list, should Hunter want to venture outside of Duuuval.
But Hunter, a Florida native, is also an avid fisherman. He was even featured on the cover of Sports Illustrated’s NFL Draft Preview edition holding two largemouth bass and looking mighty happy. That means homes with docks, boat lifts and river access are likely a priority as well.
All the homes are spacious, with fairly large lots. That extra room will come in handy as Hunter’s fame — and family — start to grow. Should none of these work out, there’s also legendary late rocker Tom Petty’s former getaway on Anastasia Island in St. Augustine.
