• Downtown/Main Street: older homes and apartments, civic services, parking rules.
• North Mandan / I-94: interstate access, newer development, retail.
• East Mandan / Memorial Highway: quickest route toward Bismarck.
• Southeast / Lakewood / Fort Lincoln: townhomes, newer builds, recreation.

Schools

Mandan Public Schools enrolled 4,395 students (fall 2024–2025). Registration information is posted year-round, and registering early improves the odds of neighborhood-boundary placement. Child Care Aware of North Dakota handles daycare information, and parochial options exist.

Healthcare

Mandan offers primary and walk-in care, including lab, X-ray and mammography at the North Mandan clinic. Hospital and emergency care is in Bismarck. Verify your insurance network.

Transportation

I-94 is the spine. Bis-Man Transit’s Purple Route serves Mandan with Bismarck transfers, April 2026 fares of $1.50 one way and $36 for 30 days, and no fixed-route service Sundays. Plan on a car.

Things to Do

If you love being outside, the land along the river carries most of it: Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, On-A-Slant Village, Harmon Lake, 30+ miles of trails and 17 neighborhood parks. Add the North Dakota State Railroad Museum, Dacotah Speedway, Raging Rivers Water Park and two golf courses. Each year the community turns out for Mandan Rodeo Days, Buggies-n-Blues and Holiday Lights on Main, the weekends people love most. Bigger shopping and dining sit across the river in Bismarck.
